Rayman Advance sends the title character through a range of strange, dreamlike settings, where he relies on his signature abilities to fire telescopic punches and float by spinning his hair like a helicopter to clear dangerous terrain.
The adventure includes more than 60 levels spread across six separate worlds, including areas like the Dream Forest and Band Land. To move forward, players must find and smash Electoon cages concealed in each stage in order to open up later areas and gain key abilities.
Because of the Game Boy Advance's hardware limits, the camera is pulled in closer than in the original console version. That tighter view sharply narrows the player’s field of vision, making the game’s precise platforming sections more demanding.
Rayman Advance stands out as an impressive handheld adaptation of the 1995 original, bringing its intricate sprite animation and orchestral sound to the constraints of the portable system without losing their distinctive feel.
