The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road follows Dorothy’s quest through a reimagined Oz, where she must find a way back home by confronting the Wicked Witch and surviving dangerous landscapes with the help of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion.
The game uses an unusual movement mechanic that asks players to spin a trackball on the touch screen to move forward. Battles are turn-based, with party members joining forces through their skills to handle tougher and tougher encounters.
The adventure is split into separate regions, and each zone brings its own set of obstacles and puzzles. As they explore the game’s stylized, doll-like world, players also handle inventory management and character progression.
The title is especially known for its unconventional control setup, using the NDS hardware to create the feeling of traveling along a physical path. Its visual style also stands apart from standard JRPG presentation with an art direction all its own.
